GIANNI SESTERZI
Pianist, composer, arranger born in Osimo (AN) Italy on July 21st 1969

He began the studies of electronic organ when he was 10 years old and after three years he passed to the study of acoustic piano. After the first year of study, the next year he is admitted to the firth year course of piano. At 15 years he stop the classical studies to compose only his own music. These are the most important year for his formation in which Joe Zawinul’s music and Weather Report music are giving an essential shape in the music of Gianni. At 19, he discover the acoustic jazz thanking to Keith Jarrett and Chet Baker from whom he receive precious inspiration. So that, he began the concerts in the main clubs of Italy with several bands.

1990 – He forms the “Triologia” band with Massimo Manzi on drums and Ares Tavolazzi on double bass playing essentially standards and original pieces. Then, this band will have the collaboration of Paolo Ghetti double bass player. He start the studies in CPM in Milan (center for music profession) and he graduate with the maximum votes under the guide of pianist Franco D’Andrea in 1 year and a half instead of 6 years related to the normal duration of the course.
During 1990 he is called to be a teacher of piano in the Senigallia School of Music (AN), armony and improvisation.

1991 – He participates to “Ancona Jazz 1991” festival with “Triologia” together with Massimo Manzi on drums and Stefano Mora on double bass.

1992 – He participates to Pesaro interexpo fair always with Massimo Manzi and even with Massimo Tamburini on trumpet. He collaborates as pianist and arranger with Karl Potter on “Bahia Latin Jazz” band participating to several important jazz festival as “Pedaso Jazz”. On December 1992 he recorded in Milan a jazz/experimental cd with Massimo Manzi, Paolo Ghetti and Massimo Greco. Thanking to the passion he has for experimental music, in 1992 he forms the band “Ipotesi Circolare” with the great Romeo Sterlacchini on guitar (one of the best musician ever met) and Alessandro Svampa on drums proposing experimental music based on the concept of total improvisation free from any scheme. This project is documented by a cd named “Fluidi”.

1993 – He is called by saxophonist Stefano Conforti in the band “Milagro” to play pieces from Bach, Ravel, Mozart to be reinterpreted in jazz key.

1994 – He forms the band “Funky Travel” with Stefano Conforti on sax, Sergio De Berardinis on drums, Gabriele Pesari on electric bass and Samuele Garofoli on trumpet

1995 – He records a second cd named “Viaggi”.He is called from Korg Japan to be musical consultant and synth programmer

1996 – He plays concerts with Gianni Sesterzi Quartet with Ramberto Ciammarughi on drums, Stefano Travaglini on double bass, Stefano Bedetti on sax. He forms the band “Tribute to Bill Evans” playing only pieces composed and played by Bill Evans. The concerts with this band are particularly important and this is a very important moment for the maturation of Gianni. At the end of 1996 he realized a self produced cd named “Piccola Luce” dedicated to his daughter. For this project Gianni is the composer and arranges the pieces. Together playing in the concerts he is consultant for Ketron-Solton, Korg, Roland and General Music.

1997 – In 1997 he forms the band “Jazzto Nero” proposing back to roots music of Weather Report and Miles Davis in hip hop/funk revisitation calling for this project the best musician available as such as Onorino Tiburzi on electric bass, Samuele Garofoli on trumpet, Simone Lamaida on sax and Max Ferri/Giorgio Bartoloni on drums. In April he performs with drummer Giulio Capiozzo and he performs with Alessandro Svampa (drummer who played with Gino Vannelli) and Luca Bulgarelli on double bass. Then he performs even with Enrico Rava on trumpet and Larry Monroe on sax (director of Berklee school of Music) and Massimo Manzi on drums. On September he plays even with Maurizio Giammarco on sax.

1998 – On April he plays at “Massimo Urbani Jazz Festival” in Macerata with Giovanni Tommaso on double bass and Fabrizio Sferra on drums. Then he performs with Larry Schneider (saxophonist of Bill Evans), Dodo Goya on double bass and Massimo Faraò on drums.

From 2000 up today:

He continues producing cd as “Suono ergo sum”, “Funkjazz”, “Zed”, “Immenso” until the last recorded which is “Zenith” realized in August 2007. He plays even in the United Kingdom in Ronnie Scott Jazz Club which is one of the world greatest jazz temples in which performed great artists such as Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, John Coltrane. In that occasion he plays with drummer Gabriel Nuzzoli (drummer playing with Anastacia and Ricky Martin) and with several English musicians. The musical activity reaches his vertex with the collaboration Gianni had with Federico Mondelci (Director) and Daniele Di Gregorio (arranger, vibes, marimba) in Monaco (Germany) and Italy with the Padova classical Orchestra directed by Mondelci.
During August 2008 he recorded his last cd named "the blue room sound energy tales"
